Hello all and welcome to our blog! We have wanted to start our blog for a long time and I am glad it's finally beginning.
Our club has gone through some amazing transformations and insane growth and we are so happy with where we are headed. 2018 is special because this is the year that our club is expanding out of Utah. This is the year we are (finally) becoming a licensed non-profit. This is the year we begin our first ever partnerships with outdoor companies. This is the year we begin to gather our own gear and supplies. Most importantly, this is the year we reach even more families who want to get outside, build new relationships, grow with and give back to their communities, and so much more. 2018 is going to be our best year yet.
I think I'll quote our wacky president and say, "It's gonna be huge!"
Okay, now that I have your attention, let's get to the good stuff.
Now, I want to share with you my thoughts, hopes and dreams for Wild Outsiders Club.
Please know that our club will never, ever be or become a "cool mom's club." Period.
We will never judge you or your family based off of your ability level, the clothes you wear, the gear you have or don't have, how your kids acted that day, if you aren't wearing any makeup, if you have bags under your eyes, if your baby screams the entire hike, if you're a single mom, if you drive an old car, how many social media followers you have or what you believe in. We are a collective of beautiful, unique individuals and we embrace our differences!
Just a tidbit about me, I straight up live in base layers and the same 3 jackets. People usually think I am much older than 26 and I know it's because of the ridiculously large bags under my eyes. Oh, and I drive an old, beat up, stickered-out, MAROON, Toyota Sienna. Yup, it's the ugliest mini-van model still around. My van is almost always the ugliest car in the parking lot, but somehow I have learned to own it. I think it's because I try to constantly remind myself that it honestly doesn't matter what any of us drive. About a year ago, my daughter would "throw down" about ever other hike we went on. So as you can see, my life is by no means perfect and we don't expect yours to be either.
WOC cares for people. Our events are for parents who need socialization and fresh air. We are for families that just want authentic relationships and want to spend time outside together with others. We are for families of all shapes, sizes, colors, religious backgrounds, belief systems and more. We are here for you and your family no matter who you are.
I hope that when you join our meet ups, that you feel welcome. Our leaders have all been chosen because of how inclusive, accepting and compassionate they are and we hope you feel that when you join us. I hope that if you are shy or reserved and you haven't come yet, that you will. Or if you have only come once, keep coming and give us a chance at growing a relationship with you and your family. We seriously love people!
I hope that we can become a club that gives families experiences that they will never forget. I hope we can host more events that are full of learning experiences, giving back, and joy. That we can host camp outs for families that have never camped before. That we can continue to help moms heal from their postpartum depression. I hope that we can continue to be a safe place for people to go to.
Most importantly, I hope that you can enjoy our events and that you know that we are a club full of families who accept you and your kids for who each of you are.
I have a dream that our club will have chapters nationwide someday. I dream about adding leaders in new places to our team who value people, nature and bettering their communities. I dream about finding directors for each state that want to pour into our club and help it stay strong in all of it's truths, yet still grow. The culture we have created with our club is one of inclusivity, kindness, and compassion and I dream of the day that we can have chapters in the inner cities, countrysides, beach communities, mountain towns, and everywhere in between.
So in a nutshell, I have a lot of stoke for our club in 2018, and I want you to join in on the stoke, too! We love and appreciate our communities and we can't wait for you to join us. Let's do some good, make new friends, spend much-needed time in nature, and come together for the greater good.
